Random Art!

Quite awhile back I read an article in Cloth, Paper, Scissors magazine (an Interweave publication) about an artist who went on vacation, taking some of her small pieces of art and leaving them in random locations. I thought how brilliant is that?! What better way to offer a reminder of the essential role art plays in our lives. Creating art is a uniquely human act, and of all human pursuites it is those manifestations of the human spirit that outlive us. So, my goal over the course of one year is to have left 100 original pieces of art in random locations. I made my first drop today at the Apple store in University Village in Seattle (love that store) Here is the piece I left, and here is where I left it:

I did include some information on the back of the piece explaining what it is, why I’m doing this, and inviting whoever finds it to post a comment on my blog. This should be fun!

I hope I’ve inspired you to explore ways to call forth your artistic spirit today.

I am the finder of apparently, the first piece of Random Art. I found it this morning at the U Village Apple store while waiting for my turn at the apple genius bar. It was a very pleasant surprise and I was very excited for my opportunity to participate in this “Random Art” experience. It is a very unique and inspiring idea piece and I hope the artist continues to inspire people in this very special way. I really enjoyed the message on the back.

I found this piece of art to be very interesting. There are music notes, circles, some black lines and the definition of create all encased in some type of matted paint texture, and it will make a wonderful little addition to the inspiration corner of my office. In this corner I have quotes, pictures and artwork that uplifts me and reminds me to make the most of each day.

Thank you for you art and your desire to enlighten others. I was inspired!

Thank you so much for taking the time to post your comment on my blog. I am so glad my art piece found its way into your hands! The matted paint texture is referred to as encaustic – the ancient Egyptian art of painting with beeswax. I think it has found a good home in the corner of your office. Enjoy!
