Mini Gather at the DBG

_DSC9896

On the 2nd day of our “mini-gather”, Barbara Hurst, Terri Porter and I headed out to the Desert Botanical Garden. This place is a special treat for me as we do not have these types of plants here in Washington. The colors and shapes are amazing.

Intriguing textures like the cactus above

These insects were so busy with one another, they didn’t even notice me!

The spiky thorns create such amazing patterns

The contrast between the desert wildflowers and the cactus is mesmerizing

I think I could stare into this cactus for hours!

The cactus flowers blooming amid the thorns is a metaphor of life itself; the world can be a harsh, dangerous place, and yet beauty springs forth.

After taking many, many pictures, we had a lovely lunch. And then, just like that, the day was done. Such fond memories. Many thanks again to Barbara Hurst and Terri Porter for our lovely time together.

Thanks so much for stopping by. Linking up w/ Kim Klassen’s Texture Tuesday today.

  1. Fun to see your take on the DBG, it sure was a mighty fine day. I think the best I have had at the gardens not only because of the company but the weather was just so ideal. Thank you for coming to see us. After seeing the many images of the flowers among the cactus makes me want to get the cape marrow or lantana to put up against my cactus in my backyard.

Carol, these are stunning photographs! I’m so happy to get to see them. It’s probably not someplace that I’ll ever get to visit. So happy that you gals had this mini gather!

Desert plants are so ‘otherwordly’. I just love them and kind of miss them sometimes. Thanks for posting your exciting images. I especially love the second photo, a crazy cool cactus with such beautiful bokeh behind it.

  4. I love the desert and all its starkness. The flowers in spring are incredible. Thanks for sharing your day with us.

  5. Terri Porter says:

Love this post, and love that a PNW girl like you sees the beauty of the desert (and captures that beauty so perfectly). This time of year especially, there’s nothing more lovely. It was a wonderful day and so much fun sharing it with two such special friends. Hope we can do it again soon!

  6. Sandy says:

    WOW!

Wonderful series of photos. The desert is full of beauty.

I have so enjoyed your accounts as well as Barbara’s and Terri’s of your mini-gather. So jealous that I couldn’t be there! But I had to chuckle at your photo of Barbara and Terri. So often when we have our FOL gatherings, many of the photos show Terri on her iPhone!

What a great post and gorgeous photos. I was hooked from the very first one of that gorgeous purple cactus.

  10. Becca says:

Enjoyed your photos immensely . . . . .. I have spent some time there, but never in the Spring … I hear it is glorious then. Love your art. Spent several hours yesterday reading your blog . .. feel like I know you a bit better now.
