Gather – Under the Pier

This Friday finds me lingering over memories of our Gather retreat. I held on to this last post in an effort to hold this experience close to me just a little longer. On our last day, after the Petals and Pop shopping experience, a group of us went to the pier at Seal Beach. Now I grew up in the area so Seal Beach holds dear memories of my childhood and it was great to revisit this place as an adult. The beach itself is always teaming with people enjoying the water, waves, sand, and seagulls. The pier also offers a fun perspective,

but most interesting to me this time was the view under the pier. So much going on there.

There were bits of a fence with rusted wire barely holding it together, as well as some shadow play

I quickly discovered that the pier’s underbelly is home to some of the bird life in the area

Families have been raised here

Surfers also use the place to store their towels while out riding the waves

It was grand to be a part of the life force coursing through the pilings

The other day I pulled out the shoes I had on that day and some sand fell out.

It made me smile and so here I am on Friday, thinking about Gather once more.

Thanks so much for stopping by. I’ll be linking up with Kim’s Friday Finds today. Hope you have a moment to stop by.

I love your perspective under the pier Carol, and the new discoveries of things going on there…birds, towels, fencing, but I love the motion of the waves splashing! Thank you for sharing these today.

  2. I could have written exactly what Beverly said because that was in my mind. Love seeing this and hanging on to the memories we shared there and even after Gather in the few hours we spent together. Good stuff those memories are something no one can take from us. You and Brian are very special to me. 🙂

I am deeply grateful to you for sharing the details and beautiful photos from Gather. While I couldn’t attend, I feel as though I have still shared in the joy by virtue of your lovely photos and beautifully worded descriptions of the event. Today’s images are diverse with flight and waves crashing but still calm and peaceful, too – a wonderful series that captures the beach from your unique perspective.

The life under the pier is so full – I love your images. It’s like a new world to discover. It makes me look at piers differently – too bad we don’t have any here.

There’s a pier near me here in the opposite corner of the country, and I love photographing the weathered posts and the waves rushing under it. It must have been nice growing up by the beach in California. I enjoyed your under the pier views and Gather memories.

What a beautiful post Carol and one I can so relate to. The magic of Gather is something I don’t ever want to let go. It was so incredibly special, life changing really.

I find myself going back over everyone’s images and blogs to keep the memories vivid and alive.
I can almost smell the sea while watching your clip of the waves beneath the pier and hear the cry of the seagulls overhead.

Thank you for all of your beautiful images, posts and energy that keep Gather alive! ♥

  8. What a lovely way to start my morning, thank you for sharing these gorgeous memories Carol. Love how we visited the same place and you saw completely different beautiful things than I did, that fence is seriously cool! Have a great day.
